HYSA Announces 2014 Coaching Courses

The Helena Youth Soccer Association will host a trio of coaching courses in March of 2014, prior to the start of the recreational and competitive seasons. The schedule will be as follows:

  • March 21-23: USSF National 'E' license (Friday evening through Sunday afternoon)
  • March 27: MYSA Youth Module (Thursday evening)
  • March 28-30: USSF National 'D' license (Friday evening through Sunday afternoon)

USSF National 'E' License

The USSF 'E' license is the introductory coaching license for competitive coaches or coaches who may want to coach competitively in the future. It is highly encouraged that all Academy and Arsenal head and assistant coaches take the 'E' license course if they do not already hold a license. A one-year waiver will be granted for those competitive coaches who are not licensed and have not used their waiver already. All current HYSA coaches will be reimbursed upon completion of the $75 course. All 3rd and/or 4th grade recreational coaches should take the 'E' license course if they intend to coach Academy soccer in the future as well. The 'E' license course will begin on Friday evening and run through Sunday afternoon. HYSA will provide lunch on both weekend days for all HYSA coaches. Pre-course work will be required.

USSF Youth Module

The USSF Youth Module is a two-hour course designed for recreational coaches and addresses the issues coaches face in working with youth recreational players. Minimal pre-course work is required and coaches, who normally receive a 50% refund for their child's registration fee, will receive a 100% refund at the conclusion of the season.

USSF National 'D' License

The USSF National 'D' license is the second level of license offered by the United States Soccer Federation. It is intended for coaches who are coaching competitive soccer up to the ages of U14. The 'D' license builds on the principles learned in the 'E' course and coaches must have had the 'E' for one year before taking the 'D' license. The 'D' license is a two-weekend event, separated by at least eight weeks. Once a coach has taken the first weekend and waited eight weeks, they can take the second weekend anytime, anywhere. At this time, HYSA is only scheduling the first weekend, but a second weekend may be held just prior to the fall competitive season. Coaches of teams U14 and older are required to hold a USSF 'D' license after using a one-year waiver period. Upon completion of the $150 course, current HYSA coaches will receive a 50% refund and will receive the second 50% after coaching for one additional season. HYSA will provide lunch on both weekend days for all HYSA coaches. Pre-course work will be required.
