Arsenal is HYSA’s highest level program, competing in the MYSA State Leagues and participating in competitive tournaments around the western United States. Arsenal teams have a history of success on and off the playing field and have represented Helena proudly in numerous USYS Region IV Championship tournaments. Most Arsenal teams practice 2-4 times per week and play multiple games on Saturday (and Sunday for tournament play). The average Arsenal team will go to 2-3 overnight tournaments every spring season in addition to competing in the MYSA State Cup at the end of the season.
Tryouts are held in the Spring for U11-U14 teams, U15 - U19 teams tryout in the Spring and/or Fall according to Tryout Policy, this year U15-U19 will tryout in the Fall so we can better manage the Birth Year change further information found in the Tryouts Details Document. According to state standards, U11 teams are split evenly, according to skill, physicality, and experience. U12-U19 teams are tiered according to ability. Teams are formed in the U11, U12, U13, U14, U16, and U19 age groups for both boys and girls depending upon numbers of players and offerings of age groups for league play by MYSA. HYSA allows play-ups (a player playing with an age group older than they are) on a limited basis based on a number of factors. Players must request this in writing. MYSA does not allow Play Downs.
HYSA tryouts are one of the most labor-intensive activities that we do at HYSA and the process requires a tremendous amount of coordination as well as a number of volunteers who must not only be willing to help out but who must also possess higher level knowledge regarding the game of soccer in order to provide the insights on each individual player that we need to ensure a fair, impartial tryout process.
Travel teams typically practice 2-4 times a week, and play games on weekends, throughout the season. In addition, teams may have offseason activities. The players’ commitment is typically higher for more competitive teams where there may be additional required sessions in the winter and summer. Travel teams need coaches, who have to pass background checks, take a Concussion awareness test provided by the CDC, and start with an F license with US Soccer, further licensing will be required based on level of team and years coaching. HYSA provides stipend and team provides travel reimbursement for their coach(es) in addition a team requires a volunteer manager, and a referee at the level of Assistant Referee, parents may be asked to fill these roles at a team meeting.
Forms & Policies
Program fees do not cover all expenses that are incurred with a travelling team. Fees for U11- U14 will be announced/discussed when team assignments are finalized, it will be based in part on the fees to be paid to MYSA. There will be payment plan options to help families.
