About HYSA
Mission Statement: The Helena Youth Soccer Association strives to provide a fun, safe environment to develop children from local communities into well-rounded athletes that are enthused to contribute on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Expanded: HYSA seeks to provide a terrific soccer experience to children from kindergarten through the end of high school. We offer kids an entry level introduction to soccer through our Recreational Program. The Academy Program serves as a bridge between the fun offered through our Recreational Program and the more competitive soccer available through the Arsenal program. Our small professional staff works with our hundreds of dedicated volunteers to ensure the highest level of satisfaction for our players and families.

About Our Programs

Welcome to the Helena Youth Soccer Association, the Helena area’s only multi-tiered soccer organization. We offer four levels of play for children in grades Pre-K - 12 starting with Micro and Recreational, advancing to Academy, and peaking with Arsenal. HYSA players have gone on to play at  very high levels of the game, winning championships, MVPs, and playing at the collegiate level. More importantly, HYSA players have gone on to win a plethora of sportsmanship, community service, and academic awards. While HYSA encourages success on the field, our core value is instilling characteristics that will make for successful contributors to society. Soccer is the tool we choose to teach these principles.

All programs run separately in the Fall and Spring.

Teams are divided by age and gender (grades 5+ are co-ed) and we make every attempt to place players according to their wishes. Rec teams practice once per week and play games on Sunday afternoons. The entire experience is a fun way to meet new friends and get some physical exercise while enjoying the beautiful spring and fall Montana weather!

About: On the player level, Academy soccer is intended to introduce players to more advanced technique and prepare them for competitive soccer (Arsenal), which begins at U12 (6th grade for most). Academy is also meant to introduce families to what they can expect with competitive soccer in terms of time commitment, cost, and travel. Teams practice twice a week and play on most Saturdays during the season. One practice day is devoted to focused technical training (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc.) while the second is devoted to game play primarily consisting of small-sided games. Competition on Saturdays will be a mixture of local play (intra-squad scrimmages), jamborees (two friendlies against teams from other towns) and tournaments (three or more competitive games against teams from other towns over the course of a weekend).

About: Arsenal is HYSA’s most competitive level of participation. While it is a lot of fun, it is also a significant time and financial commitment. Players attend tryouts prior to the season and are placed on teams accordingly (U12 teams are split evenly). Teams are led by experienced, United States Youth Soccer licensed coaches and practice a minimum of 2 times per week, typically starting as early as January with indoor practices (or outdoor if weather permits). Teams play most Saturdays from April through mid-June and typically attend at least 2 overnight tournaments (U12 teams typically attend 1 overnight tournament). Players should aspire to increase their technical and tactical abilities and prepare to play at a higher level of competition. New Arsenal players have usually completed at least 2 seasons of Academy or other higher-level soccer.
